Before & After

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are a few common questions brides ask about cleaning and preserving their gowns. If you don’t see your question here, just reach out — I’m always happy to chat about your dress.

Do you clean the gowns yourself or send them out?
All cleaning and preservation is done in-house, right here in my home, by me — never shipped off to a third party or warehouse.

What types of stains can you remove?
Most common stains — makeup, spray-tan, grass, dirt, sweat, food, floor grime, and even wine — can be lifted with gentle, fabric-safe methods. Extra-stubborn stains may not come out 100%, but I’ll always discuss that with you if that’s the case.

Can you clean vintage or delicate lace gowns?
Absolutely. I specialize in handwashing and delicate fabric care, which is ideal for older or highly detailed gowns that can’t handle harsh chemicals.

How long does the cleaning or preservation process take?
Cleaning turnaround time is usually about 2–4 weeks depending on my schedule. Preservation adds about another week for proper drying and boxing. While I am available for cleaning year-round, I try to schedule most gown cleanings during my slow season, which is November-February.

When should I bring my dress in for cleaning?
Sooner is better! Stains are easier to remove before they set in. Ideally, bring it within a few weeks after your wedding. If you bought a pre-owned or sample gown, cleaning before you start alterations is recommended.

That said — it’s never too late. I’ve successfully cleaned gowns that were stored dirty for decades. While some stains may damage the fibers or become permanently set over time, it’s amazing how well an older wedding dress can still be restored with the right care and gentle handwashing.

What’s included in preservation?
Each preserved gown is cleaned, repaired if needed, then carefully folded around a bust form and wrapped in acid-free materials inside a sturdy storage box. A muslin bag is included for accessories.

How should I store my preserved gown?
Keep the box in a cool, dry place — not in an attic or basement. Avoid direct sunlight or humidity. Every few years, it’s good to inspect the gown and refold it to prevent creasing. It’s totally fine if you want to open the box and handle your gown, just be sure to wash your hands well before touching it.

Can I include my veil or accessories in the preservation box?
Yes! Veils, garters, hairpieces, jewelry, or even shoes can be stored along with your gown.

Do you use dry-cleaning chemicals?
Nope. I use only eco-friendly, chemical-free cleaning methods that are gentle on delicate fabrics and safe for the environment. Every gown receives a final pH-balanced soak to ensure it’s not left in an alkaline state before storage — this helps protect the fibers and prevent yellowing over time.

What if my gown needs alterations or repairs?
No problem — since I also specialize in bridal alterations, I can handle any touch-ups or adjustments right here before preservation.
